inch is a linear dimension.Square feet is a measure of area. If you mean square inches then it is 144*4=576

I'm assuming you mean square inches.

There are 12 inches in a foot, so there's 12^2 (or 144) square inches in a square foot.

And since there's 144 square inches on 1 square foot, there's 4*144, or 576, square inches in 4 square feet.

The question should read "How many SQUARE inches in 4 square feet?" 1 ft² = 144 in², so 4 times 144 is your answer.
