Do you think that using the term afro-american was just another way of him pushing buttons?

Hecklers have always been part of a comedy routine. That has been going on for centuries. Part of being the pro is knowing when to fight back, how to fight back and where to draw the line.

no, i don't think he was trying to push any more buttons. he can't push any buttons now, he broke it on stage in his routine.
i think his apology is bogus. he should not have to apologize because he got caught being racial. he should want to apologize because his words were intentional, cutting, hurtful (to more than just the people in the audience), and ignorant.
as far as banning the "n" word...what a joke. how about we just ban cussing? no, better yet, let's ban anything and everything that anybody finds offensive!

I can only accept the words that came out of his mouth. Now, whether he’s sincere or using this as a publicity stunt is not mine to call, I leave that up to God.

To a few of the above posters who attempts to justify the disrespectful comments that were made by Richards. Hecklers have been around for years, nothing new. Richards handled the situation poorly.

And let me remind you that he didn’t stop at saying n**ger. He also stated the following, which makes it worse…

He screamed at one of the men, "Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a f**king fork up your ***."

"You can talk... you're brave now, motherf**ker. Throw his *** out. He's a n**ger! He's a n**ger...! Look, there's a n**ger!" One of the hecklers then turned on Richards, shouting, "That's un-f**king called for, ain't necessary."

Responding to the crowd's shock, Richards responded, "They're going to arrest me for calling a black man a n**ger."

Be blessed.

Total B.S.! He is full of it! How is it ok because they were heckling him? So was it ok for NBA players to punch a fan, I mean afterall they were hecklers ... So rude. And yes I do think he said that just to push more buttons - I mean who says that anymore?!?! When are people gonna learn we're all the same. If someone is an azz, they just are, their race has noting to do with it! Just because you have the right to do something, doesn't make it right!! He is an ignorant fool!

I am sickened by how many people here seem to have "racist tendencies". We aren't talking about what the hecklers said. It's not okay for ANYONE to make racist insults. There are plenty of insulting words without using racist ones ...

ONE RACE, ONE LOVE ... THE HUMAN RACE.

Mostly I wonder why everyone is so interested in the rant of a moderately talented comedian and the "hurt feelings" of a couple of attention-seeking jerks.
If you want to talk about race, there are real issues worth discussing, and this particular farce isn't among them.

I think he is genuinely sorry, but it's not an excuse for what he did.He basically just flushed his career down the toilet over night.

A public apology? Please! It was all a huge crock! I don't think the guy was very apologetic at all. I do, however, feel that he is sorry for thinking out loud.

I don't see why he should apologize at all. Those two hecklers should, they call "white" people all different kinda names, but when someone comes back at them, all of a sudden it's a race issue...Give me a break!!!!!

Its a plublicity stunt. They all are.. babies, Marriage, Break ups, sex tapes...anything is a stunt for media attention. Haven't you noticed!

I don't believe him because he is a bad actor. I think a stunt was blown up in his face. He doesn't care..they are all in it for the money.
