When a computer is first turned on, or rebooted, its bios performs a power-on self test (post) to test the system's hardware, checking to make sure that all of the system's hardware components are working properly. Under normal circumstances, the post will display an error message; however, if the bios detects an error before it can access the video card, or if there is a problem with the video card, it will produce a series of beeps, and the pattern of the beeps indicates what kind of problem the bios has detected. when you boot your computer, your computer runs a test- called power on self test- which ensures that the system is functioning properly. when a problem is detected it normally shows an error message. howerver in some cases the problem is detected so early in the test that the system cannot access the video card to print the error message on the monitor. so the system produces a beeping pattern on the speaker to indicate the problem. depending on which bios you are using the beep codes may vary from company to company. you will know the bios you are using when you start your computer the very first screen show s the bios. most popular bios that are commonly used are- award bios, american megatrends and phoenix. you may need to consult your mother board manual to ascertain which type of beep code your computer is emmiting. normally beep codes point to certain problems such as- ram not fitted properly, video card problem or some chip on the mother board has gone bad or key board problem etc. then again if you dont understand the problem you could have a computer expert have a look at it.

The system BIOS is your main savior which tells you by series of beeps if something is wrong with your system.

One of the well-known series of beeps is the long beep followed by three short beeps. This immediately tells you that your video card is the culprit.

You can make a google search regarding this issue as to what exactly those beeps are that you are hearing. Had you have given me more information regarding those series of beeps you are getting, it would have been easily diagnosed.
