Your sub-conscious thoughts process much faster than your conscious ones, as well as faster than speech. In your case it sounds as though your mind is making up the conversation much faster than your mouth is articulating the words, your speech gets mixed up. You need to slow down when you are speaking to people. This clearly of what you are about to say and try to stick to those words. Some people "think on their feet" and some people don't. You need to take your time and think clearly of what you are about to say - practise this for example when you go into a shop - situations where you really can't go wrong and where you will not be engaged into long conversations which need you to think at the same time as speaking. Build up from here and remember to speak louder. You need to try and pronounce you words more this will stop the slurring and muffled speech. Just keep practising and it will become second nature to you. Try this, but at the same time get a chat with your Doctor to ensure you are in top health and that there is nothing else hindering your speech and thought processes just to be on the safe side. Your doctor will not think you are making this up if you express your concerns about this.

Stop and think clearly about what you want to say. Take a breath and clear your throat of food or mucus - if necessary. NUMER 1. DON'T RUSH :Begin you sentence in a well balanced and steady meter (this just means don't fire in trying to finish the bloody sentence before you've started) NUMBER 2. BREATHE :Give yourself the appropriate pauses and breaths. If you've toned down the speed at which you talk you can start injecting more inflection into the speech - things such as intensity, emotion, dramatic effect, humour etc.- Try pitching your voice down slightly, just that 'little' bit lower. Keep your head and neck up straight. Look directly at the people you are talking to. If there is more than one, look each in the eye in turn. Leave no-one out. You have every right to express your opinions and to finish what you have started saying so, if interupted, don't be put off, finish what you were saying without changing the pace. Don't talk over others when they are speaking if you can avoid it. Don't shout but project. Don't bark. Chill out.

You may have a form of articulatory dyspraxia, which is actually assocaited with dyslexia, they often go together in fact (are you dyslexic?) Dyspraxia is primarily an inability to co-ordinate muscle movement well, and ranges in severity from mild clumsiness to extreme problems controlling limbs.
Articulatory dyspraxia affects primarily the speech muscles and the parts of the brain assocaited with speech. It can cause a muddling of what you are saying, and sometimes an inability to pronounce words. It is, however, unlikely to be something which just happens to you later in life. If you have this you may always have had it, but only really be noticing it now. Just a suggestion. See if you think it fits your complaint.

maybe you just have a short attention span, and suddenly start thinking of something else and its confusing your mind. I have this prob sometimes. I also have the problem that whenever i have to think of something stressfull i divert to thinking of something funny!? Its a mechanism we use to stop feeling stressed. Try thinking of what you want to say simply and try not to over complicate if you dont have to, once your more relaxed you should be fine. Herby.xx

I agree with Saltwater. You do need to see a neurologist and ask for a referral to a speech pathologist, who can figure out why it's happening and develop the appropriate treatment.
