why do you have to put a guard up ?

Why would you put all your trust in anyone? It's one thing to trust someone but not blindly. I hope you learned your lesson and will make them earn the trust first and never be blind to any possibility.

It is easy to put your trust in a person and lose yourself in the situation. As a victim of this.. i sleep with one eye open. It's not an insecurity to watch someone from a distance. It's your right. For the sake of yourself,stay on guard but dont be so on guard that you let the right one slip away.

Putting a guard up should tell you he can't be trusted .
Trusting/not trusting someone goes both ways.
male and female..
not taking the time to really know the person.

Not all men are like that! But I'm reallly sorry to hear that you've met one of them. You didn't mention if you where married to this man or not. If you are, I would seriously sit him down, and ask him face to face, what's up with your actions. If your not, move on. There's alot of fish in the sea. I just found my fish! I'm 43 years old, and just got married for the 1st time in July. Why I waited so long you asked, because I wanted to make sure he was definately the right man for me. So far, so great! Good Luck!

gave trust too early before it was earned.
trust is earned. you can't have it right off the bat.
keep the guard up until the person proves you can let it down.
