i don't see the problem with her wanted to get a job and help pay for college i think that is great, but as a mom myself i don't know if i would allow her to do a paper route either. only because of the safety issue. you have to deliver papers either early in the morning or late in the evening and I'm not sure i would have my daughter going alone during those times, unfortunately their are a lot of sickos in this world and i would never forgive my self if something happen to her. i would help her find something she could do like babysitting, some small grocery store's hire young people for bagging grocery's or stocking shelves, that way we both would be happy. maybe they can figure out something together. good luck

One would have to evaluate the location and timing of delivery. There are certainly places I would not want a 14-year old female alone in the early morning. I, as was my son, was once a paper boy. We never had an security issues. Times have changed and one must be more concerned with personal security. Now if the young lady had a dog to accompany her, that might increase her security.

Well, I might agree about the paper route - I don't think I would want my daughter to do that. But Sue's mom should check the labor laws in her state. I know that CA allows minors under 16 y.o. to work but limit the number of hours they can work each week and what type of work they are allowed to do.
