It is a legit technique that doesn't involve fake swords. It takes know-how and training from an expert to avoid disaster. The sword actually goes down the esophagus.

The key is to get rid of your gag reflexes by poking back in ur throat a bunch then tilt your head back perfectly straigt so your asogus is straight then the sword can slide down then back up without hitting or cutting the sides.
and then most of all GUTS TO DO IT IN THE FIRST PLACE

You have to suppress your gag reflex and not swallow. The swords are specially made and have a dull point and edges. It's very dangerous.
