Have you ever been to a restaurant that didn't provide a public bathroom for it's customers? I know some places that's illegal but here in New York there are a lot of smaller restaurants that do not provide public toilets. What would you do if you were a customer and needed to go to the bathroom while you were at one of these restaurants?

I would make a complaint to the owner/manager and tell them I would never come back and tell all my friends...
having said this.. I once needed a toilet for my child who was on the verge of letting it all go. the manager said no bathroom.. I asked then what do you guys do when you need to go or clean prior to food preparation? suddenly a bathroom in back appeared (go figure?)

Restaurants HAVE to provide washrooms. If I went into a restaurant without a bathroom, they would loose my business. Here in Canada, I think I'm safe to say that every restaurant provides it's customers with washrooms!

In NY it is illegal to operate a facility that serves food on premise (i.e. a restaurant) without providing a bathroom for customer use. If they tell you you can not use the bathroom they are breaking the law.

It's against the law for a sit down restaurant here to provide a restroom. Little counter service "to go" places can operate without them, but regular restaurants with tables cannot.

If I had to really go, I'd ask the counter guy if I could use theirs. They HAVE to provide a toilet for employees, right?

I don't believe a restaurant should be allowed without public facilities for use by "customers". It is the law here in Canada. One for staff and the customers too...and washbasin in view of customers to see the staff washing their hands..

I would probably walk out. You can tell a good restaurant if thier restrooms are clean. U figure if they spend time cleaning the bathroom that a good sign.

I will tell the owner of that restaurant that he must have a particular illness or something. Hahah... just kidding. Maybe he wants to save his money or something? Possible?

I would ask the employees where THEY use the restroom and wash their hands.
If I didn't get a satisfactory answer, I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable eating there.
