Would you feel confortble wearing a "Salwar Karmeej" while the other people are wearing western clothing? If yes, than go for it! I personally think your traditional costume is amazingly beautiful. While everyone else will be wearing slacks and boring shirts, you'll look like an exotic flower amongst them!
What color is your Salwar Kameej? If you are feeling a little unconfortable, wear a darker colored "Salwar Kameej" rather than one that is very colorful. That way you can still wear your traditional clothing and still be discreet about it.

If it's traditonal to your culture and it's dressy enough for the event than go ahead and wear it. I'm not sure what a convocation ceremony is, but I've been to England before. They're a little more conformist with fashion, but London's not as much as other places. I'm sure you'll look beautiful in you salwar kameej.
