It is true, they are not all short. Rurouni Kenshi has multiple seasons, and 7 movie releases, as well as Inuyasha, DBZ, Gundam and many more. However most series are very short because they are based on a Manga series which normally are not very long. The Anime's are basically just a summary of the Manga series thrown all together. But there are most that make it to more than one season. There are also the fact that many anime's that we recieve here in America are years and years old in Japan, where in Japan they are already running 2 new season's of the anime. But mainly it is up to the aritist/creator of the Manga's the shows are based off. I hope that this has helped answer your question.

some of them are purposely made short since they say or express what they want to do in that time while some are cut short to make way for a continuation in the form of movies or new shows. and anyway not all anime shows are short.

Not all anime is short, the ones that are you could look at like a mini-series on american t.v.

depends on what anime series you are talking about. there are really long ones like the ones mentioned above. besides, a story is as long as it needs to be. if you stretch it out for the sake of the audience, it's just not gonna be the same.

Full Metal alchemist has room for a second series, or a movie sequal. I heared they were comming out with one, but i am not posotive.

Not all of them are 13 episode short...like others have said, there are some that are 50, or even hundreds of episodes long.

Uummm there are really long anime's like Naruto, Dragon Ball Z and Bleach. You should check out Bleach I heard its good.
