hello,

Well actually thats a massive question! It depends what exactly you mean by styles? You can visit almost any country or even region in africa and your likely to find they have their own local style/s of music according to their local tribal traditions and customs.

Bear in mind that drumming styles alone is a huge subject when it comes to african music. Alot of african music combines voice and drumming. Such as music from Mali, Senagal, Barundi, etc.

*there is the sacred traditions of the Jolies, revered families of singers in africa. Some of these singers are so big in africa they are treated like pop stars (even though we might have never heard of them in the west).

**Theres Cora and zylaphone music.
**theres moden african beat music with a combination of traditional & electric instruments

Its a huge and vast list, so big its impossible to put limits on really.

I know of "Kwaito" which is South African music born in the townships among black people... hope that helps. If you looking for music clips, try a guy named Mandoza. He is a Kwaito artist and his music is very popular. He has a Myspace.
