Funny you should ask that question...I was thinking that this morning when I saw the article on Yahoo news. I think wherever he goes is is a target for people who do not like the Catholic church. He is such a high profile figure. But cause of his remarks about Islam...I guess in Turkey they are not taking the chance.

At least unlike John Paul II he does not have the KGB after him

but as a Catholic i wish the pope and cardinals would just learn sometimes it is better to say nothing.
i have a lot of Turkish friends and go there regularly we talk about religion the don't try to change me i dint try to change them
we all be ive in a better place after death and an almighty that cares for us so why just not leave it at that

No - They know that there is bad feeling towards him, so they will not be taking ANY RISKS at all. Also they have learnt lessons from the attempt on JP 2nd.

They will have carefully looked at his itinerary and made it 'safe' and the security around him will be severe.

If he was killed, there would be terrible repercussions all around the world, so they will not be taking ANY CHANCES

I sure hope not. First of all the Turkish people are a sensible people. Second, the security is amazing for the trip. That would sure blow things wide open if it happened.

No... a Turk tried it with the last one and didn't succeed. It needs another good christian to do that... the church of Rome has been full of good assassins in years gone past... Many a Pope went to one of his followers.
