It's all about the economics not the Art. Labels have to produce music which is going to appeal to an extremely wide audience for it to make $$$ for them, so they look for formula's that work, the remedy for this is to look for independently produced music and the Internet is a great place to look for it, my space has a really good variety of bands promoting themselves and many make their music down loadable for free or for less than the labels would charge since they've cut out a layer of cost by self producing and promoting. The Major Labels shot themselves in the foot by not getting on the bandwagon sooner as far as internet promotion and are still playing catch up, I personally hope they don't catch up and artists get discovered on the net & get to keep more of the money and can remain artistically true to themselves

The industry as a whole is afraid to take a risk. For starters, the age group with the most discretionary income is high school thru college, and pop music tends to appeal more to this age group than the older generation. Plus, over the past few years there has been a trend of new artists covering pop songs from the 80's. The mindset is, if it sold once it will sell again. This way the labels don't lose money, the artists don't lose money, and the fans that are willing to fork over the money for the cd's are satisfied. The music industry is a business, just like a fast food chain or a clothing store. Anyone in business wants to make money and market a product that is sure to sell. In the meantime, a lot of talented artists go overlooked because the industry is unwilling to risk straying from the same over-produced pop music to push something obscure or eclectic.

Sadly, classical music isn't popular anymore because people are very immersed in the cheap music of today. I still listen to classical in my house and car and it is one form of music I appreciate the most. Sadly, in some countries you will hear or see classical music on the radio or TV only when a politician dies. Here in the States, Classical music is kept alive in conservatories and symphonic orchestras, as well as many TV advertisements and some modern music as well. I've heard a lot of famous Classical pieces incorporated into rap and hip-hop songs. But I think we can do better for example by emphasizing classical music more in schools and colleges so that people can come to appreciate it more and more.

Pop tend to be all written by the same people so there is very little variety, but other genres of music tend to be very diverse and productive, unfortunately not r&b as that also tends to lack diversity-it just seems to be all about love, realtionships, sex etc, hip hop is arguable but their topic of songs also all tend to be samey, what with the drugs, the whole I'll kill you-I'm a hustler scene...etc etc, so really I guess country and folks all thats left really

Most of your talented music makers have been replaced by persons with no talent in the on music making, the lyrics on rap music are cloned from the first rap song made,We have now cookie cutters that copy the same beat and the same lyrics,in other words we no longer have MEN WITH MUSIC,what we have are BOYS WITH NOISE

Hello, it is because these are uneducated people who have nothing to do but sit around an copy old music.
It's like the movies and Broadway; no one has an original thought anymore so the are remaking all the old stuff again

Basically it comes down to money-the labels are looking for a quick buck. Back in the day they spent time to help grow an artist, now they only want what is hot.
