Your doctor can give you a prescription that can help it to go away and then began using it at the very first tingle if you feel one coming on again. I have never heard the food connection to a cold sore. Illness, stress, sun exposure are all things I have heard. But, if you keep getting them, you definetly should be replacing toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash after every time or at least sanitizing them with boiling water. Also are you using the same makeup, makeup aplicator or if you are male the same shaver, be sure and sanatize everything. Change your pillow cases, anything that might have come in contact with your mouth, clean it or throw it out and start over. Hope these tips help. And sometimes if you are just run down and have been sick, your body has to rebuild and you might have several in a row. I know I have. Nothing over the counter will do the job like the stuff the doc. can prescribe, but it isn't cheap....:) There is a prescription cream the doc can give you called Zovirax and it does help cold sores...

I've been plagued with coldsores for years which have got worse and worse, and tried just about everything. I started with them years ago, once or twice a year, and just a smallish swollen sore, then it got to the point where I got them every 2-3 months, and just as bad as you're talking about, I had to have days off work once because my whole face swelled up and blistered so bad. I used to get them in the same place every time too - left side of my bottom lip. They just got worse and worse each time. I tried absolutely everything, and my last resort was these amino acid tablets called L-Lysine, or sometimes called L-amino-lysine, which you get from health food stores and apparently they 'starve' the coldsore of the other proteins it needs to build (I'm not a doctor, so if this sounds too simplistic to medically trained people, sorry). I took like 6 of them on the first day then a 2-3 a day for the next few days, and that coldsore hardly came up at all and then went within a day. I did this with the next one, then didn't have a coldsore AT ALL for about 18 months - it's totally been a miracle cure for me! I got one a couple of months back, but I took the tablets as it started to swell slightly and it just went back down again after a day or so and didn't get blistery or uncomfortable at all. Don't know if it will work for everyone, but I guess it's worth a try. If you google it you'll get some more info, it seems to work for some other people too. P.S. I know it's not a good idea to take lots of protein or amino acid tablets all the time but you can tolerate it for a day as long as you're otherwise healthy etc, you shouldn't do it if you have kidney problems or anything though.

Cold sore suppression therapy can vary from person to person. Some people take the drug acyclovir 400 mg twice day while there are some who, instead of taking acyclovir, prefer to use the drug famciclovir 250 mg also taken twice a day or valacyclovir 500 mg which is taken only once a day.
However, cold sore suppression therapy [http://permanent-cold-sore-cure.blogspot.com/2007/09/cold-sore-cure.html] is not considered to be always 100% effective. Studies have shown that this method of treating cold sore works on some people but does not work on others. If this is the case, there are still a few other options in which a sufferer of the disease can opt to take. Always consult your doctor first.

Cold sore can be anyone's worst nightmare especially when the symptoms start to manifest themselves. It is one form of the herpes virus thus a person suffering from it will experience an itching and burning sensation on the affected areas. These symptoms can be controlled however through a treatment called cold sore suppression therapy.

There are two types of herpes simplex virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Both virus types can cause sores around the mouth (herpes labialis) and on the genitals (genital herpes). Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).
Cold sores sometimes called fever blisters, are groups of small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. The skin around the blisters is often red, swollen, and sore. The blisters may break open, leak a clear fluid, and then scab over after a few days. They usually heal in several days to 2 weeks.
The herpes simplex virus usually enters the body through a break in the skin around or inside the mouth. It is usually spread when a person touches a cold sore or touches infected fluid—such as from sharing eating utensils or razors, kissing an infected person, or touching that person's saliva. A parent who has a cold sore often spreads the infection to his or her child in this way. Cold sores can also be spread to other areas of the body.
Luckly there is a cure for herpes https://tr.im/c57e5

Don't use any type of chapstick or lipstick while you have these cold sores you can spread them easily this way.
Never heard anything on chocolate or nuts.
...also don't touch the sores and then touch any area of the lips that is another way of spreading them...Be sure to wash your hands after applying carmex or any other medication you are placing directly on the sores.

Get Lyscene pills at a drug store, they are a suplement, crack one in half, moisten it, and rub it on the cold sore... WORKS REALLY WELL
For prevention, trying keeping your lips moist with chap stick, when you get the little dry cracks on your lips, thats when cold sores seems to come. Apply it throughout the day, make sure it has an SPF in it, sunblisters are very similar, and can be more painful.

Cold sores are a virus and they can spread. Try not to touch it. You might try herpecin or abreva. They are both lip balms that you can get over the counter. If that doesn't work, you might need to see a doctor. I never heard that about chocolate or nuts, sounds like an old wives tale to me, but you might ask your doctor.
