Wicked question!
Well, if it was Gandalf the Grey - I think Dumbledore might (but only just) have stood a chance (have to talk in the past tense, even though I'm hoping that J.K. R. will somehow bring him back to life), but against Gandalf the White, impossible. G the White is, as someone mentioned, a demi-God; the surface of his powers was barely scratched (a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the picture) during the war against Sauron.
For the record though, I really think they would call it off for the good of mankind - or muggle-kind, whatever. I can't see them fighting till the death; unless, perhaps, it was over a woman......:)

I think Gandalf, cuz he has been through death and been reincarnated, whereas Dumbledore is just dead. Also, Gandalf knows how to fight with a sword and all. And finally because he was like the prototype for a wizard, there would be no Dumbledore without a Gandalf coming first to pave the way.

It depends, if your talking about Gandalf the Grey or White. If it was Gandalf the Grey, then it would be a pretty close fight, but Dumbledore would come up on top, but if it was Gandalf the White then Gandalf would win hands down.

What the movie failed to make clear is that Gandalf was basically a demi-god. His powers were many, many times what we saw in the movie, but he was only allowed to interfere with the affairs of mortals to a very limited extent. If allowed to use the full force of his powers, a fight between he and Dumbledore would be over before it started, with Gandalf not only triumphant but rather bored.
Anyone who says otherwise didn't read all of the Tolkien material, or didn't understand it.

Gandalf. Love Dumbledore, but Gandalf the White is more powerful and I would even say wiser.

Dumbledore, because he is friends with Harry Potter. With Harry on your side, you cannot lose. But I am biased because I like Dumbledore more..Dumbledore has a great sense of humour, Gandalf a bit boring (but nice).

Gandalf the White.
Dumbledore might have given Gandalf the Grey a run for his money.
Still, Gandalf always had the edge because there was a time when he knew all the spells of Elves and Men, even if he'd forgotten a lot of them by the time the Fellowship reached the Gate of Moria ...

I don't know. Gandalf's pretty powerful. He beat Saruman, you know, who's pretty powerful too. So you have to take that into account. Dumbledore was in that fight with Voldemort, but he didn't win. So, Gandalf 1-0.

CRUCIAL MAN !!
Is that Gandalf the grey, or Gandalf the White ??
i must admit Gandalf was pretty useful with that stick thing, especially in the ps2 game!
if it's a brute strength argument i think Gandalf just shades it. How about if they played chess - much safer! Now that would be something. I think on that one u might be right.
great question.

I think Dumbledore. He lasted for 6 books, and Gandalf only lasted for 4 (if you include The Hobbit).
