Great question! Country roads by John Denver is the perfect tune to play while you enjoy driving through the winding, hilly roads for which the area is well-known.

I have spent some time in parts of West Va., and enjoyed it tremendously. Our location was near the village of Hillsboro, the birthplace of Pearl S. Buck - the only female writer to win both the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize for Literature. A tour of her home is a great family outing, and an education about a prolific American writer.

After the tour, why not stop by the local cafe across from the Post Office for some warm cornbread and homemade "fixins". The prices are better than reasonable, the food is excellent, and the ambience of the cafe is remarkable for such a tiny hamlet.

If your family is a group of snowbunnies, you'll love Snowshoe for the skiiing. Nestled in the Appalachian mountains, you'll find not only enjoyable skiing and hiking facilities, but also access to some great boating, rafting and fishing too. Photographers will enjoy the many wonderful photo-ops, so be sure to pack a camera.

:) Enjoy your time in West Virginia!

During the winter, there are several ski resorts open with activities for the family. Also, during December, check out the festival of lights in Wheeling WV. Check out the WV Tourism site. Hope you have fun!
