I started mine when I was 12. Nobody really knows when they will have it for the first time, so to avoid any embarrassing incidents, remeber to carry a pantyliner or pad and a clean knickers with you at all time. Some girls get it earlier, and some get it as late as sixteens. You shouldn't really be worrying yet at this point. Take care!

How old were your mom, maternal grandmother, or older sisters when their periods started? While its not a hard & fast rule, it is a good guideline. If they started around 12 or 13 or whatever, you might be right behind them.

Otherwise, it'll end up being a big surprise...only Mother Nature will know when you'll start your menses, but you should consider being prepared at all times. Carry a panty liner or sanitary pad with you so that you will have protection in the event you should start while at school or out shopping, etc.

One final note: if you don't get a period by the time you're 16, you should make an appointment with a gynecologist and make sure everything is ok...sometimes a late period could be a sign of hormone imbalances...but you've got a few more years before you need to worry about that.

I'm betting you'll be starting within the next 6-18 months. Good luck!

well I started my period at 11years old , and some girls don´t have them till they are 16years old , So we are all different. How do you know? well you get funny feelings in your tummy , sometimes they can be quit painfull , and you feel a bit sickly , think it´s good to have a sanitry towel in your school bag , just incase , they come on whilst your there . saves having to ask the teacher. not that she will mind . If you are worried , speak to your mum or an older sister or even a friend .

I wouldn't be in any rush to start! I got mine when I was 8, and it sucked. Everybody is different, and there are many things that affect when this will happen, including weight, diet, stress levels, genetics, etc etc.
It'll happen when it happens. Enjoy every minute you have without it!

You will soon, I was only 13 when I got mine. Don't worry about it some people only get them when they are 17/18 so you have plenty of time!

You can ask your female relatives (your mom or aunt) when the started their period, this will give an idea when you will start.
Why don't talk to your mom about this. You will get sex education in school, where they will discuss your menstrual cycle.
