My husband is wanting to start DJ-ing. He has done it before but he just downloaded songs onto our laptop and just took the laptop along. He would like a new PC for christmas for songs but I dont know what other DJs use to hold their songs, someone told me an MP3 player (im not sure what that is) I would really like to get him something for chrismas to put his songs on but i dont want to mess up and get him the wrong thing. Can anyone make any suggestions? Please!

An external hard drive 250G or more would be ideal if he doesn't plan to bring physical cd's with him to gigs. My back-ups of my discs are stored and take up almost 600 Gigs. I still use audio format discs so I know I'll have the entire library with me at all times. There are also programs like PCDJ that you can look into that he'll eventually need, but without the storage capacity, he won't have much selection. If you're going the IPod route, there's a nifty but pricey kit with Twin IPod slots on a mixer. The IPod's handle the mp3 storage problem, but playback cannot be pitch-adjusted, so beat mixing may be a task.

Well, if getting him a new PC, it would be nice to get him a PC with a 250 GB hard drive. If he needs his music tog o with him, then he would need an external hard drive. The portable external hard drives are a lot more expensive than the desktop externals, so you should ask him if he needs his music to go with him to play on the laptop. Then the external.. MP3 players are okay if that is what he is using just to listen to his music, but an external hard drive would be better for actual DJing.
