can you imagine a panel of each going head to head on primetime TV. Get like an all star lineup of conservatives and liberals and put them to the test. I would love to see o'reilly vs olbermann and mike savage vs mike moore. and there needs to be the head of the RNC and DNC too. hell, make it a weekly show and see what happens.

If you mean "Is it possible to have a logical debate with dogmatic bigots?" - no, it's obviously not, by the nature of the case.

The problem ultimately is that all "truth" really IS relative. Begin with any assumption whatsoever, and all you have to do is switch all other calculations over to suit. If somebody wants to claim that the moon is the center of the universe, who can actually deny it? The only serious objection is that such an assumption doesn't facilitate the work of astronomers, as the heliocentric theory does. Convenience of description is the only ultimate canon of "truth." Until people have this clearly in mind, they'll always be vulnerable to dogmatism; and nowhere is this more a problem than in politics and religion.

Not unless they can objectively listen to someone else's point of view - which means no. Most people are so completely convinced that they are right and you are stupid. These people are unable to hear anything that differs from their opinion. Even if you back your ideas with facts, the opposing person will find facts to disprove your facts, or ways to show that they are biased.

It is dumb . And Y!Answers is filled with people who ask questions solely to state their opinion - not to promote intelligent discussion.

Well if you can't have a debate with one or the other who are you going to debate then.
The sign of a good debate is being able to come up with arguements and countwer arguements to an opposing group.
It's not a debate if you do it with people who share your beliefs.

name calling as you have used will not be part of a logical debate.
so maybe you would not fit in.
name calling is not logical, is it?
what is the point of the name-calling? is it so you can feel superior and not have to listen to their viewpoints?
logic is not really the basis for humans.
logic is not the be-all and end-all.
humans are emotional creatures with other things to say besides "logical" things.
try actually listening with empathy and connecting with
the other person in a compassionate way.

Not for you. Insults and name-calling aren't effective debating strategies.

You first have to ask and intelligent question, without insults. I'm not going to hold my breath.
