Don Omar was born William Omar Landrón, in Villa Palmeras a very poor "barrio" of Santurce, San Juan,Puerto Rico in 1978, but a lot of people believe he was born in the Dominican Republic and says he is Puerto Rican due to the discrimination Dominicans suffer is P.R
He was the mos popular "regaettonero " on the island, but nowadays - and believe me, I had live in San Juan for the past 8 years- people go for Wisin y Yandel, Calle 13 and Daddy Yanky , they are the stars on the "perreo firmament".
Not too popular anymore among youngsters he seems to expend his time between trips to the courthouse for drug charges and
criticizing his fellow "sandungueros". If you go on a Sunday night to Laser o any of the clubs in Old San Juan, you will hear one or two Don Omar songs. Be ready for Hector El Father, W y Yandel, Calle 13, Arcangel a fresh batch with plenty of talent and sex-appeal !
