I believe when Zoe had asked if we could show her 1950's makeup styles she meant pictures, not people explaining to her how to do it.

Porcelain skin with a gentle rose blush just on the apple of cheek and the cheekbone, then very pale eyeshadow in beige or light golden brown, liquid black eyeliner just on the top lid with a little flick at the outer corner, the thicker and blacker the eyelashes the better. then finish it all off with a very precisely applied red lipstick, keep it glossy and moist and in a classic lip shape.... think gwen stefani's lips!

Easy. Flawless porcelain skin with a hint of blusher on the cheekbones. Neutral, beige eyeshadow over the lids and up to the browbone followed by black liquid liner along the upper lash line and two coats of thick, black mascara. Finish with some rich, ruby red lipstick.

Go to The Body shop website. You will find a video section where Chase Aston goes through how to create different looks. The red carpet look is very fifties.

The one thing I remember is my mum used to use an eye pencil to make a "beauty spot" beside her nose.
I think it was an Audrey Hepburn thing.
