I don't think you would be too old at any age if that is what you want to do. I know somebody in her 50's who just had it done. You might want to look at her website:

Oh and I recently went out to dinner with her in a small cowboy town in Oregon and nobody batted an eye. :-)

Key phrase is 'pass'. And THAT requires a great deal of attention to your size, age, 'station' in life, etc. The older we get, unless we were gifted with a body like Christie Brinkley, the more age has an effect.
"Reasonably feminine woman" is a variable term. I know of one crossdresser who is pretty tall and big. She 'effectively' passes as a somewhat conservative, matronly female.
As in my answer to your question regarding crossdressing, what are the motivations? Are you already rather 'feminine', or are you projecting this view as a wish?
Biological males seem to 'pass' best when they adopt a casual, non-sexual look. This means items you would find in the 'plus sizes' department, styles that emphasize softness and fluidity rather than 'boobs' and 'behind'.
You can really never be to old, HOWEVER, you will need to be realistic about the outcome. A 52-year old biological male is NOT going to end up looking like a 20-something girl! Just isn't going to happen. If you are OK with the fact that you will likely wind up looking like a 52-year old GRANDMOTHER, then fine...
And if that is what you really want, then yes, you have a very good chance of actually passing. (Assuming that your personality and inner self is likewise reasonably feminine.)

Well I am in the same boat as many older pre op transsexuals, this passing buisiness, is made too much of.
I'm 43 and look so male but that is not the important factor, I am in the wrong body simple as that, when I've had my surgery, I will look in the mirror and be happy with what i see, because that male horid thing will have gone.
Too many girls worry about this passing part of our lives, so long as I have my sugery, I'll be happy.
My question was posted to get a cross section of views about us TS people, and i have got it, for us and against, and therefore I've learned a bit more about societys attitude thank you

keyword is 'bypass'. "particularly female woman" is a variable term. i understand of one crossdresser who's extraordinarily tall and great. She 'efficiently' passes as a particularly conservative, matronly woman. As in my answer on your question with regards to crossdressing, what are the motivations? Are you already extremely 'female', or are you projecting this view as a desire? organic and organic adult males look to 'bypass' superb whilst they undertake an off-the-cuff, non-sexual look. this means products you're able to discover in the 'plus sizes' branch, kinds that emphasize softness and fluidity extremely than 'boobs' and 'at the back of'. you could extremely on no account be to previous, besides the undeniable fact that, you will could desire to be real looking with regards to the effect. A fifty two-12 months previous organic and organic male can not finally end up looking like a 20-something female! in basic terms can not ensue. while you're pleased with the undeniable fact which you will in all probability land up looking like a fifty two-12 months previous GRANDMOTHER, then superb... And if that's what you particularly need, then confident, you have an extremely stable hazard of particularly passing. (Assuming that your character and inner self is likewise particularly female.)

My roomate in the hospital when i had mine was 68 and she passed. The oldest i know about was 78 and done in Montreal.
Passing is a lot more then just looking femenine.
Its also a mental attitude,if you are uncomfortable as your self after grs you will have problems passing.
I am not the most femenine woman i know but have no problem passing.

75. Not joking oldest known SRS that I've ever read about was a retired 75 year old school teacher. She looked ok for an old broad. But I think she had been on hormone replacement for years before the surgery.

i am 47 and i am having SRS in august of 2007. i am also having "facial femininzation" surgery in jan. this is a personal choice.
as far as being "too old"....that is a matter to discuss with both the therapist AND your SRS surgeon. my personal feeling is that the threshold is about 55-58 years old. beyond that there is way too much physical trauma that is involved with SRS to "achieve believability" or in your terms, the ability to pass as feminine

You'd be surprised--plastic surgery can do a lot. The younger the better, as far as female appearance goes, but many women-born women also put up with problems like baldness, big bellies, ugly feet, etc. So I would never tell a 50 or 60-year-old they couldn't do it, or if they did it, they're doomed to be ugly women.
