Hypothyroidism doesn't have to mean your daughter can't have a joyous, healthy pregnancy! Although it may make her pregnancy slightly more complicated, in the end, her pregnancy could be as uneventful as that of a woman with a normal functioning thyroid.

If she is taking her medication and keeping her TSH at a good level, hypothyroidism itself should not keep your daughter from being able to get pregnant. You should set out to determine the cause of her irregular periods, though. She might have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), which is more common in people with hypothyroidism.

You should discuss her irregular periods with her doctor, because having periods infrequently puts her at risk of developing endometrial cancer. The doctor may recommend birth control to guarantee that she will get her periods on a more regular basis, or may recommend something else.

Hypothyroidism itself does not reduce fertility, AS LONG AS she is taking her medication properly and her TSH levels are within a normal range (.3-3.0). When she starts trying to conceive (which is hopefully far, far down the road as she's only 13), she should shoot for a TSH between 1.0 and 2.0 (will give her a better chance), but right now .3-3.0 is a fine range.

Good luck!
