First you must know who your potential readers are. This one girl who came out of jail wrote about being in the ghetto. She went back to her old neighborhood to sell her books because that was her target market.
Is your book aimed for women, kids, me, lonely people, self-help? You have a niche market you need to know. Then go wherever you think they will buy and self market from there.
Also a great website might help.
