Good question mate but a abd idea.
It will be toooooo expensive and we will exhaust our resources 100 times faster.Every country which does it will become bankrupt.
And there are also other things like the pollution caused by rockets(SLV) taking trash into space,if the rocket malfunctions and falls back on Earth then?
And going near the Sun will vaporise the the rocket and that will add to the expenses.Think about 100 of tonnes of iron, titanium, aluminium etc. vaporising!we will soon be back again in stone age without any meatal left this time.
P.S. some answers above are like given by 10 year olds, they deserve 1 out of 10.

Look at the cost of just what it cost to send a space shuttle into orbit and think about how many tons of garbage is produced a year. The landfills are not that bad. After they finish filling one up, after about 20-25 years we can reclaim that land and rebuild on it, so it is not like the land is totally useless. Who knows, we may even figure out how to recycle other garbage instead of burying it, other than the plastic and glass we already recycle someday.

Great idea but we can't even get back to the moon, so how are we going to get anything more than space trash if we send off a ship filled with refuse.
Space around Earth already has too much trash flying around in orbit

A great idea untill we use up all the resources we need.
If excessive consumption continues with so may disposable items (aluminum cans, plastics etc.) We will eventually get to mine the old landfills to get back our resources.
but I still for shipping toxic waste and used diapers as far out as they can be sent!

I have considered this myself before. I can think of several reasons.
(1) It would cost A LOT in the short run, to do that.
(2) Acorrding to NASA, they have better things to concern themselves with. (And they'd like to save rocket fuel)
(3) There is much room for error in doing something like that.
(4) People are lazy and stingy.
Based on this however, I have often wondered, why dont we take trash to uninhabited places (by people or animals) and set detinators in the trash and vaporize it?
P.S: Foxnaturist, the sun is a STAR, not a PLANET.

I don't think we could predict what the effect would be of flying anything at the sun. Over time, it might cause changes that would make the sun react in a way that was detrimental to us. I'll be interested in reading what science-minded people have to say about this.

Apart from the $$$ issue, if we send all the junk out of planet earth, this will result in loss of the earths's mass
This will upset the equilibrium of the earth's orbit around the sun and very soon, we will be orbiting nearer towards Mars' orbit. The weather will mess up, the seasons will mess up, and everything will mess up 'coz 1 earth year is no more 365.26 days
Refer to Kepler's 3rd Law

NASA's golden rule: in no way tamper w/ what you do no longer don't have expertise approximately. we will not probable wager the effects of assorted issues going into area like that. If trash is going to the sunlight, a reaction undesireable would desire to take place. a number of it would desire to circulate off beam and finally end up on a planet. interior the form of something like that taking place, you have led to unplanned, unnatural issues to take place. Plus, it may value alot to do this.

As great as that idea is think of how much it would cost to do that....of course landfills may cost us more in the long run!

Impossible. Either the trash will fall to the ground (gravity), or when it gets close to the sun (extreme heat), it will burn up and/or explode, causing likely extreme pollution and harmful gases to our ozone layers, thereby causing even more extreme serious problems.
