i was told that if someone eats a lot of gravel, it will help their digestive system. has anyone heard anything to confirm or deny this fact?

Well, you would eventually get a small bowel obstruction. While our digestive enzymes are incredibly powerful, they aren't so much that they can digest rocks. As far as what happens when you get a small bowel obstruction, they would probalby go in a surgically remove the gravel, if it hadn't already perforated it. If it's perforated, then you're in a great deal of hurt. That means a very long hospital stay with lots of antibiotic treatments. You may require a small bowel resection or even a colostomy placement.

I imagine that at the least it would be painful, and it could potentially cause an intestinal blockage that could be fatal.
