After Richards made some virulently antisemitic remarks during his act in April, in order to save his career, he hired a publicist to claim he is Jewish.

According to Wikipedia, "reports surfaced that Richards had made remarks about Jews during a stand-up routine in April 2006 that could be regarded as anti-semitic. Richards called a heckler a "f***ing Jew" and said "You people are the cause of Jesus dying." The publicist Richards hired after the fallout from his comments, Howard Rubenstein, confirmed the report, but added that the remarks were made as part of the comedy act. Rubenstein initially also added that Richards is himself Jewish although he later clarified that Richards has no Jewish ancestry, was not born into the Jewish religion, and has not converted to Judaism, although he "adheres to Jewish philosophy" and "had some very potent and important mentors in his life that were Jewish."

So my question is this: Will Michael Richards now claim to be black?

Well, he's trying to claim to be a stand up comic which is at least as much of a farce, so why not?

I believe mike richard's racist slur was worse than Mel Gibson's. Even though I was never a fan of michael richards or the seinfield show, but I think what he did was way out of line. If he was racist when he said what he said 8 years ago he was a racist from the beginning. He should never be seen on tv again after what he done!

He's an actor I wouldn't doubt this whole thing is anymore than a ploy to boost his lagging career. It wouldn't be the most outlandish thing by far that someone in the "industry" has pulled. Remember Janet Jackson's "costume problem". They will do anything to keep themselves in the public eye. 2-1 the "heckler" is a struggling actor or professional extra. I think it's all a ruse.

The question that comes to me...should people with bigoted feeling voice their feelings freely no matter how right or wrong or offensive. Or should we have a society that place peer pressure on people to act non offensively and hide their feelings and pretty much act subversively.

michael richards did what a lot of people would do when someone makes them mad, take it to the extreme, and he did.... many people would have done the same thing..... he can do or say whatever he wants no matter if it is the truth or not.... who cares if he says he is a jew or claim to be black. AND ALSO YOU DONT EVER HEAR THAT THERE WERE SOME BLACK PEOPLE IN THE AUDIENCE HECKLING HIM, AND EVERYONE GETS MAD AT HIM AND THEY GET NOTHING, I AM ON HIS SIDE.

Michael Richards is a self-absorbed prick who can't deal with the fact that his career is in the toilet - and that the show that was only a sidekick on isn't on the air anymore.

Michael Richards is an *** hole trying to protect the Seinfeld franchise so he can keep getting the residuals, along with Jerry who tried to cover his *** on the Letterman show IMMEDIATELY after the insodent.

If the KKK can get a parade permit, Richards can have his rant.

The only "punishment" he deserves is the public's scorn. As distasteful as his remarks may have been, he commited no crime.

Who cares? The guy exercised his first amendment rights and did nothing wrong. Last time I checked, we didn't have to like everyone.
