During the first week of starting the white pills, I was on an antibiotic for three days to cure a UTI infection. It was called Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole). I did not use a second form after taking the meds. I have been on the pill for a year. What are my chances of getting pregnant?

Your chance to get pregnant is increased, but you need to use a backup method of birth control until you finish the pill pack you are currently taking, as the entire hormonal cycle will potentially be interrupted. Once you start the next pill pack, backup will no longer be needed.

1 in 100 women who use the pill for a year will become pregnant.

Antibiotics lessen the effectivness of birth control pills. The longer you're on the the more they effect the birth control.

Generally it takes three months of proper dosage and routinely taking the pill in order for it to be as effective as possible.

Ask your doctor how much it might make a difference.

Its unlikely that you're pregnant, but even when taken properly it can still happen. Jsut ask your doctor.

You should be using other protection after taking any anti biotics as the pill doesn't work properly.I would ring the doctors just to be on the safe side, then hopefully you won't have to be worrying.

Odds? Can't really answer that one, as they have never really been calculated. What you should do, however, is practice another form of birthcontrol until you are completely off the antibiotic and then for one more week.

I don't think they mix. I would definitely ask your doctor ask the pharmacist. I wouldn't take the chance on getting pregnant, use a safe.
