I don't think that he could handle the heckling. I am black and I honestly don't think that it mattered about the color of their skin. I feel if it would have been a white person he would have flipped out. Clearly he needs help but note, he is not the first to be heckled. all those comedians deal with it and they know how to maintain their selves.

Michael Richards was always a guy "on the edge" of normality; that it is what made him appealing. After Seinfeld, Mr. Richards career spiralled downward while the remaining cast of Seinfeld moved on.
During the comedy routine, he hit rock bottom; nobody was "showing the love" to Kramer anymore. His routine sucked; he was probably strung out on coke or crystal meth and went rabid when the reality of his career was thrown in his face by way of hecklers, who happened to be 2 black men.
If the hecklers were Asian, Hispanic, or even Jewish, the reaction would have been the same; only the words would have changed. Michael Richards the "star" died on that stage that night, with or without the racial tirade.
"Kramer," a man we know to be on the edge, went down swinging. He doesn't need a healing; he needs a beating. Let him go back to the club and get what is coming to him so he can move on to the next chapter in his life--infomercials or dog food ads. Either that or we will be reading about the unfortunate suicide of Michael Richards a few months from now.
It's all over but the crying.

I think he honestly just lost it. This obviously isn't an excuse, but I think that's the real reason. He couldn't handle the heckling because they were attacking his "funny." That's the worst thing you can do to a comedian. He wanted to attack these people, and the only thing he knew about them was that they were black. So he struck a low blow. It certainly indicates some racist beliefs, but that doesn't make him a racist outright. We all think things we shouldn't and we all know better. Richards just got stupid and let those thoughts be heard. Isn't he Jewish? I'm sure he jumped on the crusade wagon against Mel Gibson like everyone else in Hollywood. If I were him, I woulda had my publicist come up with some story about me being off my medication. People aren't as quick to get angry with people who are suffering from a mental illness (like depression or something). He was all honest though and just told people he was stupid. :)

Good question, he has or had a few notable Black friends in the industry. My guess is that he holds some pretty strong racist views and has held them all his life. I saw the CNN segment with the guys he attacked and the story was that as the group entered, he became bothered and flipped out. There was 3 minutes worth of insults prior to the camera phone recording.
He made comments that the low life Mexicans and Blacks were in the back being noisy.
Anger and drunken-ness has a way of bringing out someone's truest feelings.
From what I've gathered, he SUCKS at standup comedy and was bombing. Perhaps that was the tipping point.

He flipped out because he couldn't handle the heckling. The main reason a comedian gets heckled is because he isn't very funny. Because he chose to respond the way he did, it also shows his hidden feelings about African Americans. There are plenty of ways to insult a person without referring to his race. Mr Richards exercised his freedom of speech; now, so is the general public about his comments.

I think his act sucked. He didn't know what to do, and then the people started disrupting him.
Yes, he's a bigot, but so are a lot of people who pretend they aren't.

i think most people are not tolerant of other races we are just programmed to lie about it he obiously had a bad night but you would think a comedian would have a comeback for everything, i think the part everybody is leaving out it what was actually said to him, either way he shouldent have said those things

He was in over his head with stand up comedy and didn't know how to handle a heckler, so his true self came out instead.

Nah. I think he got nervous and couldn't handle the heckling. I'm not condoning what he did... But I don't want to condemn him either. Poor thing... Would hate to be in his shoes right now.
