I had some problems and needed to be anibiotics several times during my pregnancy, I can't remember if Augmentin was one of them (there were so many!). I'm sure it is probably fine but your GYNO will need to be informed of it.

Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium) is currently classed as a Category 'B' Risk factor which is quite good and perhaps one of the most suitable antibiotics to be on during pregnancy. Many category 'B' drugs,Augmentin included have only ever been tested on pregnant animals as opposed to pregnant women but though they showed no negative effects, this is of course totally based on results from animal testing and not pregnant women. It is well documented that Augmentin does not appear to 'add' to risk factors regarding birth defects or miscarriages etc but cannot 100% be ruled out, Therefore doctors will readily prescribe this antibiotic treatment only if they feel that the benefits outweigh the risks. Hope this helps! xx

You are very safe. Augmentin (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid) is a 2 part drug. The Amoxicillin is a penicillin derivative, which is simply a broad spectrum antibacterial. The Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor...a compound which prevents the enzyme beta-lactamase from breaking down the drug before it can kill the bacteria. Both the Amox and Clav are very safe for both you and your baby. Good luck to you in the rest of your pregnancy.

I am on my second child and I have had to take antibiotics while pregnant. They are 100% safe. A doctor wouldn't give it to you if it weren't safe. I promise
