How would one classify the two mockumentary films "Drop Dead Gorgeous" and "Best in Show"? As black comedies, satire, farce...? I'm having trouble identifying elements in mockumentary films that would provide justification for a certain comedy classification.

Or are these two films different types of comedy?

They are exactly what you have labeled them, mockumentaries. That is a genre in itself.

As the others said, they're mockumentaries and satires, but they're also examples of improvisational comedy, or at least Best in Show is. Christopher Guest is known for setting up a premise and letting his cast improvise the dialog.

These are some of my favorite movies...the Christopher Guest movies are the best! I would say that "mockumentaries" like "Best in Show", "Spinal Tap", "Mighty Wind" are satires. So they would be satirical comedy.

The general catagory is "mockumentaries", like This is Spinal Tap and Waiting for Guffman.

It's just a sub-genre of comedy

i would say satire, because it's kind of making fun of real situations. i don't know what the official classification would be.
they're both hilarious though.
