I like the comment about the coffee table book, that is almost a fair statement; but it missed it the mark. It is more of a coffee table book of history from the late 1940's- the early 1990's. Sure, there were some incredible special effects used; but it did not hit you over the head. Is it over rated? Not really. It did win a bucket load of awards and grossed over a billion dollars, but that was due to how good the movie was. Unfortunately, it also was a huge target. Everybody from SNL to morning DJs to your local high school's class clown made fun of the movie by immitating Gump's speech pattern.
