A United Kingdom question relating to the UK Parliament.

I often wonder why our politicians are always trying to convince us that they are making a positive difference to our lives - when nothing really seems to change except increases in taxes.

Then I listened to this, so when you have done so too - post your opinion please.

If you listen to the whole speech you will not be posting here for at least a hour and your answer won't carry much weight!

Sorry, what I meant was if you listen to the whole presentation you will be in a better position to comment. The presentation can also be printed off if you don't want to listen. I don't have a nerve asking participants here to open up their minds to different senarious - isn't that what Q&A is all about? Obviously some can't be bothered to listen or understandably are at work [I'm retired] and can't use up company time - although I suspect that being logged on to Q&A outside teabreaks etc is using company time anyway!

Because Politicians:
"Never say what they mean"
&
"Never mean what they say"
They have no shame and are habitual liars.
They are self seeking to promote their own inportance, interests and wealth.
They creat and foster division among people to split concencus government.
That about sums up the lot of them up

I'm sorry I didn't have time to listen to the whole spiel but the day a politician tells the plain unvarnished truth has yet to come that's why many people are disenchanted. As far as a positive difference goes, not often. Perhaps if most of them were in touch with the real world of ordinary people and had smaller egos it would help.

i'm unlikely to spend an hour listening to a discussion about politics. especially as i am at work and have only internet access 5 mins at a time.

why am i disenchanted with elected leaders?

the choice is limited to those who have convinced enough other politicians to put them forward for leadership.

there is little choice between them as all the parties have converged to a middle line anyway.

the politicians base all their policies on what will be popular enough to get them into power or keep them in power instead of trying to plan for the best long term good of the country.

In most elections the choice is between Tweedle Dumb or Tweedle Dee. The same old hacks get re-elected. I have heard that in the US the incumbent can in theory get re-elected so many times that 'he' stays in the job for up to 48 years - for God's sake.

Personally I would like to introduce a law which makes it illegal for a person to run for office more than twice. In UK that would mean a maximum of ten years in parliament. However, if you're daft enough to vote for me, I'm not going to introduce such a law - it would be like giving myself the sack - no sir!

I'm sorry, I have a policy of not clicking on a link to an external site. That could be an invitation for malware on my computer.

I think you've got a nerve asking people to spend an hour listening to something, just to answer your question.
