It depends on the situation..if you are listening to someone else,it is important that "you" understand them.
If they are listening to you.it's important that "they" understand you.
Both are equally important..

imho it is better to understand and therefore learn more, than it is for ppl to understand you

look at all the greats of history, most ppl scoffed at them in their time/place, until x amount of time passed when ppl realized how great they were/are
