1st off the coil is not the cause of ectopic pregnancies! It just doesn't prevent them.
2nd the chance of pregnancy on the newer coils 2000 and on is 0.1% chance of pregnancy chance of pregnancy if you had your tubes tied is 0.5% so the Coil is better
The 10 year one is called Para Guard and is non hormonal. You may experience heavier periods and cramping you might skip periods
Mirena is 5yrs has minimal hormones that doesn't get in your blood stream there is a decrease of your flow and cramping and 20% of women dont get a period at all on it.
They are recommended to women who have had at least 1 child (if you haven't the chances of expulsion is higher as well as perforation.
They recommend it to women who are in a serious monogamous relationship since having multiple partners exposes you to infection and STD's which are harder to treat with the IUD in place

I had the mirena fitted 8 weeks after my baby was born and have never looked back. fitting is no more uncomfortable than a smear and the coil with the added hormone reassures me pregnancy is extremely unlikely and as an added bonus when i had it removed my fertility returned to normal within 4weeks which is quicker than other contraceptives. because of the hormone as well periods are minimal if at all which is another inconvenience gone if you suffer with them like i did. Now had my 2ND baby and just had another mirena fitted. lots of my friends now have them on my recommendation and no one has had any probs. Good luck whatever you choose, Joanne:) (using hubbies ID)

I had an IUD which was coiled but is to last for 10 years, while the other is made the same way, it's coiled also, but only last for 5 years. Both do the same thing, and they both cause bleeding and cramps....I had to have mine taken out during a routine check-up about 1 year after I had it put in...it turns out that it was half way out, and I was pregnant because of that....it did not work. I was trying to use it for a more permenant solution to to birth control, but it was not worth it. You are better off using like Nuvo-Ring or other types.....hope this helps!

i had the copper one but i would really advise u not 2 get it i had it fitted twice and once it fell out and another time it dropped also if you get pregnant the coil can also cause eptopic pregnancy which is really serios and if you do get pregnant on coil if they cant get the coil out there are lots of things that can go wrong i would try a contreception in which you can control you also get really bad period pains and back pains obviosly this doesnt happen 2 every1 and it is your choice but personally i wouldnt advice it and i have had it twice and had promblems both times i am on the pill and feel much better and in control

I have the Merina (hormones) . I love it, wish I would have gotten it years ago. I had no pain getting it inserted. You get spotting the first few months. I no longer have PMS, or painful heavy periods.
Good luck in your choice!
