The only way I can think of that $1000 would seriously alter my life is if I spent it on tuition to take a class or learn a skill, or if I spent it on therapy of some kind.
Possible classes might be:
Martial Arts
Health related class about Diabetes
some trade that I would then pursue as a side-job
parenting classes

It totally depends on your current situation. $1000 dollars for me would pay off some student loans or allow me a nice weekend getaway, but wouldn't seriously alter my life. However... $1000 in some people's case, could be an apartment for a few months and enough time to get back on their feet.

Unfortunately, I think this is the wrong forum to answer that question. People that can afford a computer, electricity and the freetime to ask questions aren't real candidates for having $1000 alter their life style. But about 66% of the planet would probably be able to drastically alter their lifestyle (by either getting out of servitude, buying extra livestock, getting a child educated who might then be able to earn money to help the rest of the family out, being able to have a water well drilled for the town they live in so they can have clean drinking water)....
Sadly, I don't think anybody here would notice it much. Yeah, it might be nice for some things, heck, maybe even practical things, but that's something we can "earn" in a fairly short amount of time in the industrialized nations.
Great question. Thanks for asking.

a thousand dollars will pay my bills for two weeks!
A thousand dollars would be a great little boost of money
But in this day and age, It cannot alter your life
1000.00 Bucks is barely enough to get yourself an apartment with a security deposit
1000.00 will give your family a nice Christmas

Not my life personally, but if you were less fortunate than me...it sure would! College students with no money for tuition would certainly think it was a lot of help! As would those who have been laid off since 9/11 due to economic issues. Mothers caring for kids with deadbeat dads would think it was a lot! AS would some of the refugees from New Orleans, who still don't have a home or a bed of their own to lie on. It's all relative I guess. Count your blessings.

No. But It would help. It would not seriously alter my life. But It would seriously alter my credit card bill.

It would for me because I am currently living in the United Arab Emirates. Here $1000 american is equal to almost 4000 Dirhams (the currency here), this is a tax free country so 4000 goes along way.

I was given $1300 dollars last year as a gift/donation after Hurricane Katrina. It sure did help me and my family. It was dire straits then and I will always be grateful for that money. SO that money changed my heart as well as helping financially because I realized that a lot of people are good.

I thought about the same thing when I saw the Oprah question. I don't think you could change someone's life in the US with $1000.

It might make things easier for a couple of months but it wouldn't alter my life.
