Why is it that Republicans give one line insulting answers and Democrats give thoughtful responses?
Could it be that our president is operating with the same limited mentality?

I think he didn't change his rhetoric, but he may actually be changing his policies--the Rumsfeld removal may have been the start. I think the next step he's waiting for is the Baker commission's report, which he hopes will give him a ladder to climb out of the trench he's dug for himself. I think he knows that Congress will show him how much the people want the troops home, but at the same time they are not going to act abruptly since that would be even more of a disaster. If you listen to the Dems they are talking in terms of phased redeployment over 1-2 years. So when the Baker report endorses that idea (and I think it will) that will give Bush the cover to do just that. The rhetoric will not change, he will simply declare victory, just as Nixon did in Viet Nam.
You watch, they will put more and more into the hands of the Iraqis and start to move our troops out. The process will be hastened if it looks more and more like a civil war over there and if the casualties in general and of US troops in particular continue to mount (as I predict they will).
We have now opened talks with Syria and Iran (which is what they wanted) who will on the surface call for ceasefires and peace while at the same time arming the factions in Iraq--making the US seem impotent and making sure the situation seems out of control....the US takes the hit (as it should since we should have never gone in there) they fight through surrogates (just like its going down in Palestine) and they gain prestige and influence amonst Moslems and Arabs worldwide.
We will be paying for Bush's mistake for decades to come, while we also pay him a nice retirement in Texas.

I'm a democrat and I want more than anything for a progressive agenda to replace the mess the Republicans have made, but the timetable and strategy for withdrawal must be carefully thought out, especially since Iraq has descended into civil war (which we more than helped create). Bush is trying to hold onto the tattered remnants of his administration, but he will ultimately have to listen to reason.

I know he just doesn't get it. Having the troops come home would be a dream come true. My husband is in Iraq right now and I miss him so bad. I wish so much that this war would be over!

Guess he is hoping that recounts will give the Republicans a victory. Mr. Bush says he does not believe in polls so why should he listen to what the American are demanding?

People falsely give Bush more credit than he deserves.
As a high-functioning Moron with an IQ of 84 there are many complex issues that he simply does not understand.

Bush has nothing to lose for he cant run again for president , he has had his two terms. I am tired of all the killing af our young people over there, that country has been in war forever, they like to fight , when will we learn that? How many have to die before we learn?

why do u, again u-not americans, want to pull out of iraq. Terrorists will take advantage of it and rebuild, after all we have done to them. Why would u waste it. Americans want a better management of the War in Iraq, but certianly not to pull out, that would be stupid.
