We got a new thermostat becasue we thought our old one wasnt working, well now we have a digital one, and it is doing the same thing, but only with the heat the air works. Anyway seems that the heating unit wont read the thermostat right. It turns on and everything, but if we have it set to like 74 then it will turn on for like 1 min and turn off and the heat never seems to go above like 68 degrees.

I am not sure if I am understanding this correctly, but here is what I say.

Rarely ever is the thrmostat the reason for your heat or A/C to not work. It is however often replace by do-it-yourselfers because it always seems to them that it is the problem, no big deal.

You likely have a better thermostat out of the deal.

First off check the wire terminals you "LIKELY" have wires colored red, white, green, yellow, and possibly blue or black, and if there is a heat pump maybe an orange or brown. At the furnace there is probably a board labeled R - G - W - Y - C and possibly an O. Mark clearly which colored wires go with what letters and make sure the wires at the thermostat match the same colors and letters as at the furnace. This ensures you control wiring is correct.

Next turn your thermostat up to a desired level, and see what the furnace does if it doesn't heat correctly there is likely a different problem. If this is the case you may want to call a heating contractor.

Hope this helps.

you need to have the wiring checked between the thermostat and the furnance. As well as have the funance checked out. Plus 74 is very high. 68 is what it is recommened to be set to.

Read your instruction book. There should be a section on setting the Heat Anticipator. There are different settings for different types of heat. The anticipator could have been bad on your old thermo. and set wrong on your new one. One direction it stays on to long. The other way it cycles right off.

if you set t-stat at 74 and it shuts down at 68 then the differential switch inside t-stat may need to be adjusted (special tool needed to adjust).

You need to look at your heater. There is another device which works actually turning things on/off, it might be bad (regulatetor??)

You should hire someone to fix your heating. don't mess with it if you don't know what your doing. You don't want to make it worse than it is
