my husband and i are trying to conceive is there any herbal meds that can make his sperm count go up?

man i am amazed at how much people try to help and how much wrong info they give out or half truths. Ok thre really is no way to increase the sperm count by taking any thing its more so what you dont do then what you can do. Ok first if he drinks or smokes any thing tell him to stop that will really kill his count. Also any drug he may be taking will afect it as well. Anouther thing you can do is have it done at a sperm clinic have him give a sample and have them spacicly put it in you. it would have been cheeaper then the reversal. If you dont want to do that then the other thing you can do is stop having sex. Yeah thats right stop having sex. Have sex only once every three days. This is because if you have sex on a daily basis you will actually hurt your chances by his own sperm. You see sperm isnt just little men going streght for the egg. IT is an actually colony. They actually have attaker sperm. They kill any other sperm put in by anouther male. Now if he does it more then once every three days his sperm will actually destroy it self because it will think it is from a forigen body. Try the once every three days thing if that dosnt work have them do a sperm count on your husband he may have a small urethra. IF that is the case have him deposit one in the sperm clinics they will get the best sample and have them put it in you. Remember you shouldnt have sex with in three days before or after getting it put in you.

I don't know about herbal remedies but he following should help.

keep the testis cool - no hot baths - wear boxers
no alcohol - stop smoking
eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg
take ZINC tablets and vitamin C
drink plenty of water
get good rest and take exercise daily

Dr's may prescribe hormone injections - but all the above will help

ps - only have sex 2 days apart from day 10, to give the sperm time to regenerate - if you want to conceive do NOT 'save' it up for more than 8 days as the man's body will then produce sperm anti-bodies which will reduce the effectiveness of the sperm

I know of no herb that will help couples conceive. I am assuming with your question that you are just now trying to have children and have not sought out an infertility specialist.

I you know you husband has a low sperm count then you may be aware that having sex less often will allow the testicles to build up a bigger supply of sperm. With that said it may not be sexually easy for you husband to abstain.

Give yourself a good 6 months and if that does not work see a speicalist. The more you worry about it the harder it will be to have children. The less you worry about it the easier it will be.

His sperm count will go up the sexier the environment is to have sex.

Now that everyone has had their say, I suggest you find a copy of Prescription For Natural Cures by Balch and Stengler and read the six page section on Infertility (pg 332). It has an excellent discussion and lots of advice from medical professionals. They agree with some of the advice you have garnered, but not all.

well eating healthy cant hurt but not sure if its going to make a big difference. he shouldnt smoke and should get some exercise tomake the whole machine run a little better but honestly if his count is low and he is "releaseing" a couple of times a week then you may need to seek pro help. but you also have to think about his biology he has to maintain a sperm quota in his body. if you drain the reserves then a whole fresh batch is made but if his factory isnt up to code then no matter what you do not gonna help to much. your urologist is your friend.

Non-herbal: Zinc, vitamin e, b-complex, vitamin c
Herbal: Ginseng, gingko for blood flow throughout the body

Do you know that it is down? If not then dont worry about it! Relaxation and not trying so hard will work better than any herb.

Of all the various aspects of the male human body, few are as variable from individual to individual as semen. The color, texture, and quantity — not to mention the force of ejaculation — vary greatly. Zinc has been shown to improve both the amount of sperm you produce and the sperm's ability to move spontaneously and independently. Coupled with amino acids (see above), this will increase sperm volume significantly.
(Butter's note: Not as miraculous as they make it sound, but regular zinc intake (50mgs a day) does increase quantity somewhat.)

Whatever a pill company's claims are, you can probably do just as well with zinc and lecithin supplements. (Use zinc supplements in moderation; too much zinc intake can be dangerous.) For some guys, these nutrients do have a noticeable effect on ejaculation volume, and they're a lot cheaper and easier to get. In general, stay away from mail-order pills sold by less-than-reputable companies; you really don't know what's in them, and their claims are almost always untrue or at least greatly exaggerated.

While Kegel exercises can help you last longer, they can also aid in increasing sperm volume. There are a host of exercises you can do to keep your penis in great shape and shoot like a champion.
(Butter's note: PC muscle exercises have proven to help reduce prostate troubles in advancing age, but I have yet to see improvements in my ejaculate's volume through this method)

Frequency of sexual activity also contributes to volume -- although only to a certain degree. If you abstain for a day or two, you'll certainly produce more sperm than you would ejaculating every few hours. But any longer than this one- to two-day timeframe, and you won't see much of a difference, as semen reservoirs will have stopped building up a supply.
(Butter's note: True, the body will evacuate excess semen through urine & etc. so abstinence over 3 or 4 days will not continue increase of quantity. Usually, 2 or 3 days should be enough to reach maximum potential... but there are exceptions!)

And for those of you who wrote in asking if semen is a good source of protein, its protein content is roughly equivalent to that found in the egg white of a large egg. So you're probably best off sticking with the eggs.

Consistency of semen isn't very consistent; you've probably noticed that the thickness of your ejaculate can vary from day to day. This is because the quality of the fluid is very susceptible to a number of factors. Diet, exercise and frequency of sex can all dictate how thick or watery your emissions are, as can the tightness of the clothes that you wear (tight clothing will increase body temperature and can thus impact sperm motility.

While there is a lack of supporting scientific evidence, a number of ingredients are said to help thicken up semen. Because of their protein content, egg whites and gelatin are often recommended. Wheat germ, omega-3 oils, selenium, and zinc are all also believed to improve consistency.
(Butter's note: Tomato-based products, soy-based products, oatmeal, and celery have also proven to help thicken the load, at least in my case!)

Vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, and essential fatty acids are found in the prostate in high levels, and are all necessary to produce semen. Low zinc levels have been connected to decreased production of seminal fluids, as well as lower testosterone levels. A healthy balance of nutrients is important for maintaining vascular health as well, which improves your ability to achieve and maintain erections. There isn't a need to go popping extra vitamins if you are already eating a diet rich in nutrients, particulary from fruits and vegetables. Essential fatty acids are found in certain kinds of fish (like salmon) and nuts.

Celery is one of food products known to have great properties for sexual stimulation. It contains androsterone, an odor free hormone which is very inviting for women. Raw celery is the best way to increase that desire.
Oysters are rich in zinc and are know to increase sperm and testosterone production. It contains dopamine which increases the sexual desire.

Causes for LOW sperm count:

Testicular Exposure to Overheating.
Overheating (such as from high fever, saunas, and hot tubs) may temporarily lower sperm count. Work exposure to overheating may even impair fertility.

Substance Abuse
Cocaine or heavy marijuana use appears to temporarily reduce the number and quality of sperm by as much as 50%. Sperm actually have receptors for certain compounds in marijuana that resemble natural substances and which may impair the sperm's ability to swim and may also inhibit their ability to penetrate the egg.

Smoking.
Smoking impairs sperm count, sperm motility, reduces sperm lifespan, and may cause genetic changes that affect the offspring. Additionally, a 1999 study found that men who smoke have lower sex drives and less frequent sex.

Malnutrition and Nutrient Deficiencies.

Low Semen Levels
A reduced amount of ejaculated semen (less than 0.5 milliliters per sample) may be caused by a structural abnormality in the tubes transporting the sperm.

Varicocele
A varicocele is a varicose vein in the cord that connects to the testicle. (A varicose vein is one that is abnormally enlarged and twisted.) Varicoceles are found in 15% to 20% of all men and in 25% to 40% of infertile men. It is not clear how they affect fertility, or even if they do at all.
