You don't say how you to for sure that "private investigator is reading my e-mails". If you have the proof take it to your local police because the private investigator has over-stepped the law and will loose his/hers Lic., to practice in the state where you reside.
If you reside in the United States, even the FBI, or Home Land Security requires a warrant issued by a judge to gain access to your emails on your personal pc, or the data stored in your ISP servers.

In a situation that serious I would take no chances. Back up whatever documents you need and then format the hard drive. Wipe it clean and re-install windows. Once that is done, change all of your passwords and pin numbers.

Get SpyBot and Adaware, you can download both of these for free, on your PC and run both programs. Also, run a virus scan. AVG Free Edition works great. Then change your password after.

Why is he interested in it in first place? Change your sign in password. If it is spyware try Spybot search and destroy, Adaware SE. Antivirus test AVG is good and it scans your emails...coming and going.

Close your account. Open another someplace else. Also check your bank account. If he can hack your password and login, he may have other identity theft tools as well.
