actor Robert Sacchi

Humphrey Bogart played the orignal Phillip Marlowe in a movie called The Big Sleep (1946)
Robert Sacchi starred in a movie called the Man with Bogart 's Face (1980) about a private eye who had plastic surgery to look like Bogart so he could 'pretend' to be Phillip Marlowe
Robert Mitchum played Marlowe in a movie called Farewell my Lovely (1975)
Elliott Gould played Marlowe in a movie called "The long Goodbye" (1973)
Other than that I don't know of any other actors associated with the role, or whether any of these actors are English.

Crikey....in film or tv? British or American tv? Sir Michael Gambon did actually play a character called Phillip E Marlowe in the UK TV series "The Singing Detective". Whether that's what you're looking for I'm not sure.

Lots of American actors have played the fictional character Marlowe as written by Raymond Chandler in US tv series and movies. From Humphrey Bogart, Dick Powell, James Garner, Elliot Gould (movies)....to possibly even Stacey Keach as a Marlowe-ish PI .......
Can't think of any Brits in movies who've actually played the Raymond Chandler character for real....but I'll think on....
