Hamlet, Prince of Denmark
Went off to school
Comes back
Dad is dead--murdered
Mom is about to marry Uncle and Hamlet is pretty sure the uncle did it (killed dad--mad at mom)
Meanwhile his girl friend, Opheila, is freaking out because her dad died...and it's been awhile but maybe some accident of Hamlet's causes this.
Everyone feels sad for Ophelia...who is wigging and singing songs about herbs... except for the brewding Hamlet who is too self absorbed. She is found dead in a shallow creak with all the herbs she was singing about (maybe that is just on the painting not sure)
Her brother is pissed at Hamlet for not loving her better
Hamlet is not sure how to seak revenge on the uncle...or if maybe he should just kill himself (To be or not to be)
Goes a little nutty or acts that way ...hanging out in curtains and holding up skulls "Fortenbras, I knew him well"
There is a play within a play...and maybe you should read the end...I don't remember it that well.

Try here: http://www.sparknotes.com/shakespeare/hamlet/
I actually read the play for class, but this site helped me a lot with themes and things like that. It has act summaries, too!

Certainly a general search using the WWW will give you all you need.
With no offense I'll offer this synopsis.
Dark, heavyness, interjected with deep, sprinkled with occasional light, then often fading into more Dark.

Watch "Renaissance Man" starring Danny DeVito as a warm up. Then you should be primed to read the play. Its a play not a novel so it shouldn't take any longer than a paperback romance.

Get a copy of the play and read it... you'll have to do your own homework on this one, I'm afraid.
