Go for Dell. They don't deal thru shops. I use one for work, and it's the 6th Dell I've had. I've just bought one for home, so have 2 of my mates. All very happy campers. I payed £1k for mine, coz I use CAD programs, but both my mates got nice ones for just over £500 a piece. Good luck, and arder direct from Dell on line: you can always upgrade if you need to.

Depends on what you will use the PC for. Lower cost PCs tend to have graphics cards which are not good enough for the latest games. With Dell, you may be able to configure your choice with a better graphics card and other things. With PC World and Comet WYSIWYG.
As for best service, just hope that it does not breakdown. All from these sources might use proprietary hardware. I prefer known hardware, particularly the mainboard and graphics card. My last PC came from MeshComputers.com, where you can also configure what you want. They appear to only use Asus boards, which normally have a good reputation. My son has just ordered a new one from Mesh. I hope that it is OK .

I bought recently direct from Dell, I wouldn't want to go to any of the high street chains.
Dell were excellent, it was delivered within the time quoted, set up and on line in minutes.
Definitely recommend Dell, I bought a dimension 5150 around £500 maybe a touch more.

avoid pcworld they dont know their @rse from the elbow, dell are ok, however i used to have to replace a lot of there screens and there hard drives tend to fail quite a bit.
Why not look at building something yourself? the components are cheap and im guessing you already have a pc which means you might be able to salvage some bits.
why not look at www.dabs.com or www.overclockers.co.uk they are very good for prices and offer good stock, yet again avoid pcworld though

I agree with the others Dell offer the best prices and service beyond all others...
Dell also let you customise your system if you wish so you can add or take componants off. (a floppy drive and a 56k modem are pretty obsolete so why pay for them in a system)
I bought a duo core 2gig, 1 gig graphics card and 4 gig ram ddr off dell for a very reasonable 900 quid... i'm in pc gaming heaven

Dell Best for PC's but for a hassle free life get a mac, Quiet, Fast and reliable, i had a dell 3.0Ghz and then got a G4 Mac Mini and have recently purchased a intel MacBook.
You can now install windows on a mac but i'm not sure why you would want to.
Mac Mini

Apple Finace is very good, also if the spec looks lower than pc it equates to more on a mac

Try Dabs.com in the UK, at least compare prices before you buy. I dont think anyone has good deals on aftersales service. You are protected for the first year by law, after that I would use local friendly computer shop.

I would buy from dell, they only do computers and know what they are doing. I bought my laptop from comet and the salesperson didn't have a clue what he was selling me. As for pc world, don't get me started!
