From a Conservative View: Would our Country be better off as a Christian State than a Constitutional State. Where the Bible would play a greater role in our society.

The Bible was not given to us as a basis of government. We are supposed to apply it to our personal lives. If more people applied the Bible to themselves (don't steal, lie, commit murder, commit adultery, etc.), the country would be better off because of fewer broken lives and fewer people in prisons. That is how the Bible should play a bigger part in society. I think that too many Christians get caught up in trying to turn the Bible into law rather than convincing other individuals to use the Bible's guidance.

The answer is no. Religion should be taught in the home. While I believe that many liberals have subverted the separation of church and state, the prohibition as it was designed is a good one. The purpose of the separation was to prevent the creation of a state religion. If the bible was to be given more weight than the Constitution then indeed the prohibition is useless at that point. Religion should stand to provide a moral foundation for people to live, but government should be ethical, not necessarily moral. Further you do not have to be religious to be a moral person. If we have people with strong moral values in positions in government we will have an ethical leadership and therefore will not require a theocracy to serve the interests of the people. Religion is a slippery slope because no matter how you look at it and no matter which religion you mention they all have a fair share of fanatics. Fanaticism is bad no matter who it is coming from or how just they feel in their convictions.

The Bible is not a guide for Christian Statehood. It is a guide for social change. Both individual and group change but it advises against a system of vertical leadership.

The only thing that really crosses over between the Bible and our government is just the basic "Golden Rule." Do unto others as you'd have others do unto you. Any religion that doesn't promote violence believes the same thing.

Not killing, stealing, raping, etc. are all things that I would hope every religion is based upon.

This country would be a lot better if people did believe that there is a higher power that will judge them in the end. It makes you do the right thing even if no one is watching.

Christians, when given the power, use everything to denigrate and ruin "non-believers".So no,there's a REASON why its the past, not the present.
