Not sure about legally....but I had my own apartment when I was 17...my mom cosigned the lease though...I would like to think that s/he is responsible enough to hang for a minute...I mean hell they are almost 18.

I live in Florida. My daughters are 15 and 11. While they are with their father, he leaves them alone until very late at night. The cops - and DCF - have been called several times. According to them, my 15-year-old is "old enough" to be left on her own, AND to be responsible for her younger sister. Reports were made, but no legal basis for any charges of neglect could be filed. As long as the electricity is on and there is food in the fridge, that seems to be "good enough".
Based on this, I'm gonna guess that a 17-year-old would not have any legal problem being left alone for ANY length of time. If you're really concerned, you can call the local Sheriff, ask them their opinion, and, if necessary, advise them that you (the adult) will be away from such&such a date to whenever, and request that they do a "wellness check" every other day or so. They will. Bear in mind, though, that even if you are not at home, YOU are STILL legally responsible for anything that happens (like if the 17-year-old gets into trouble).
Make sure you leave WRITTEN AUTHORIZATION for emergency medical care in your absence, btw.

The only problem I can see is if s/he gets hurt he or she can not consent to treatment because s/he is a minor. other than that I believe it is fine to leave a 17 year old alone as long as they have family or friends who make sure they are fine every other day just to be on the safe side.

I'm fairly certain that leaving a 17 yo home for a few days is acceptable. Under 16 I would be more concerned. Make sure you have an adult available to "check in" and make sure everything is ok. For final confirmation, I would call DCS (from a payphone!!!) and ask just to be certain.

Email her father back with a polite yet stern warning that if this continues, the police will be called. She is stalking you. If you've saved all the emails, and I hope you have, paste them all into a word document in the order they were sent with their dates and times and send that as an attachment with the email as proof. If she still contacts you, ring the police.

You would have to check what the Florida law says..
In my opinion, it may be acceptable in some cases...

I think that would be ok, but check with your local authorities.
