If you are British, and you want to just drive your car in the USA, it will be no problem. The police would like you to have an INTERNATIONAL driver's license, just in case they have to "run your license" = check on any traffic violations you have had in the past.
You will have to show proof of insurance upon entry at the shipping port. Your British insurance is probably NOT valid. You will have to buy a policy from the port office.
The petrol = gasoline there is a lower octane than in England.USA is 87 or 89 or 91 octane. Your higher octane British car will not perform as well, but go to a car-parts store and buy a bottle of "octane boost" for a couple of dollars for each fill-up.
If you want to STAY in America, and import your car, well that's a customs paperwork situation. Your car had better be over 5 years old to make it cheaper. "grey laws".
I don't know of any state in the USA that requires yearly inspections (DOT). If so, this only applies to licensed American cars of the state's residents, NOT tourists.

There are other factors that you would have to consider but there are no laws in the US specificaly that prevent you from driving a right hand driver car. There may be other concerns like making sure that the car will be street legal, meet emissions and crash test standards. If it's an old car, you don't have to worry so much about those standards.

Yes. You most certainly can. The mailman does it all the time.. not to mention that they sell used mail vehicles to the general public so there are plenty of right-drive cars on the road in the US. It might make for some very akward situations but its perfect legal.

its really not fun to drive a rhd car here .. my friend had an r33 and i drove it a few times.. making left turns is impossible when your by yourself.. and right turns take some getting used to because you feel like your way close to the curb its ok for a weekend car just to cruise but not a daily driver
