I do not think that the present form of any team can be considered as a yardstick for the World Cup as the World Cup is to be played after couple of months and no one knows at this point of time which players will be representing each team and what will be their performance at the time of World Cup.

Hence a fair prediction at this stage will be that all the top 8 teams have a chance to win the World Cup.

i think they are one of the most exciting and balanced teams in the 50 overs version of the game, and australia as well as pakistan and maybe newzealand. south africa has a a good batting tail as it were and can bat up to number 9 or 10, if you watched their last game against india you would agree to that, and with allrounders like andrew hall who can open the batting as well as bat at the lower order, and can bowl good swingers as well, shaun pollock has proved his worth as an all rounder, jaques kallis is probably the second best all rounder in the sport after flintoff, and graeme smith can bowl good slow spinners as well. the key to the odi game is to have as many as 4 allrounders in a team coz they give a team a great balance and they can chip in with some runs if the specialist batsmen fail to score runs and do the job with the ball as well. so definitely i think they will have a chance.

South Africa definatly have a chance, for many reasons...
1) they beat australia in a 5 match series
2) ability to score at a run rate over 10 when under pressure, demonstrated in the match against india and THAT games in australia
3) Solid Bowling attack in the likes of nel, hall, ntini, pollock, kallis.
4) amazing fielding ability

There is one thing letting them down though, the fact that they dont have a world-class spinner
