They ask because some scholarships are set up to be granted specifically to certain ethnic groups. If you really are Native American, I would choose that one, because there is a LOT of scholarship $$$ available for that particular ethnic group. Bear in mind that the goal in filling out these applications is to get as much money as you possibly can - not to make a political statement. Save that for after you actually get the $$$ - or risk being disqualified.
If none of the categories truly fit you, just write in "human".

Say your a strong middle distance runner. Every track team needs someone for the 880.
The Black athletes dominate the 100 the white the mile and the Kenya guys the marathon. By claiming that middle distance slot you will get in.
Once your enrolled you can always claim you are in rehab like Redpublicans do. And never have to prove you can actually run.
Go big Red Go

there are many scholarships out for people of different race or ethictisity. so marking your race could be a way of finding scholar ships. Check with the school to ask.

Why are they even allowed to ask? They can't ask on a job application, but they can ask on a scholarship because racism against white people is ok.
Use the system to your benefit. Find out which race gets the most scholarships, and choose that one.
When I'm asked, I check the "other" box and write in "American" because that's what I am.

Just mark the Caucasion box..they don't really care what colour you are. They just need to ask that question so they can tell the state their statistics. Such as we have 40% Whites, 20%Blacks, 10%Native Americans, blah blah Going to our school.

Write it in, or pick the one you've put on all of your other forms. Surely you've been asked this before. I'm surprised the race part is the one that's confusing you.... a week ago you were a woman....
