Better be looking for another job when you take it off.

you said your contract states that you have to work a 'certain amount ' of bank holidays per year. by that i am assuming that you have worked more than you are contracted to do?
however, whether or not this is the case, i would be inclined to not 'tell' your boss anything, it is a sure fire way of making sure you are put on the boxing day rota!
i would advise you to speak with your boss, nicely asking him if it would be possible for you to have that day off, in the process you could remind him/her nicely that you have indeed worked more than your fair share of bank holidays.
if he refuses, he may give you a very good reason why it is not possible, and if he does i am afraid there is little you can do, however if you feel the reason he gives you is unfair or unjust you could try a grievance, but to be honest your contract states you have to work them, and legally speaking you should or your boss should be monitoring the ones you work as you go if you are only obliged to work a certain amount.
give being nice a go it works much better than trying to lay down the law to your boss. good luck.

You are legally entitled to days off in lieu of a bank holiday which cannot be denied to you. If you are receiving these days off, then there is nothing you can do as you are obligated to work. If however your contract states a definite number of bank holidays that you must work per year and you have already reached or exceeded this number then you cannot be made to work on boxing day or any other bank holiday within the current year. You must inform management of your intent not to work on boxing day. Are you not unionised at your workplace? If you ave a union ask your steward/convenor to examine your contract.

you are on sticky ground with a contract states.
there is no law which says you are entitled to bank holidays you are entitled to statutory days. as a rule of thumb you are entitled to a day a quarter for every 4 weeks worked plus stat days.
your firm does not have to give you boxing day.
if there is a colleague who does the same job as you and is getting bank holidays off you have a case as it is discriminates towards you {there is an exact term for this but cant remember it sorry}
a local trade union or citizens advice will have the up to date laws concerning this {the same to change on a daily basis} i suggest contacting them as the advice you get here could be out of date tomorrow

Depending upon your country of residence, in the UK we are allowed to take all bank holidays, those that have to work normally get to take other days off in lieu of the bank holiday.
Therefore I would double check with your boss and of course your contract of employment.
Happy holidays.

Does your contract state how many of the "certain amount of bank holidays per year" ? You might have already filled your quota... you could just ask your boss...

Its in your contract which bank holidays you are entitled to and what the company should do to recompense you for the ones you miss (usually days in leui or extra pay). We recently had a dispute like this at work and I spoke with ACAS to find this out.

If its in your contract youv'e basically had it mate BUT if others are getting far more bank hols off than you are I would ask to see your manager and state your case explain you feel its unfair that you have only had one in 11 years whilst Joe bloggs gets loads. Be firm and fair and prepared to compromise for a satisfactory resolve
Good luck

You've answered your question in your first sentence, 'my contract states....'
However, if everyone else has more bank holidays off then if I was you I'd have an issue.
