One of my favorite "short on cash" kinds of presents is coupons. This happens a lot between me and my wife. I use the computer to make them nice, but they're still almost free to do - and can be for anything... walks in the park, romantic dinners, rent a movie together, Sunday drive, anything.

Remember, the people who love you most value being with you over anything material that you could buy for them.

Merry Christmas!

I am cheap! I usually make a bunch of stuff because I feel bad that its not the new DVD (or what ever) they wanted

There for, I Make mixed tape CDs, a Scarf and or Mittens that I knit, I have even been known to make mini photo albums. If you make it funny, the gift seems to mean more,

If youv'e got 10 bucks hit up a resale shop, I allways find good gifts there. Just dont do the clothes thing unless its Really perfect, and then make sure you wash by hand and then wash by machine. you would be disgusted if you knew how dirty those clothes can be, especially in the hems... yuck!

Mixed cds and peppermint bark. That's what I'm doing this year
Peppermint bark: white chocolate, red and green candy canes: Break the canes into pieces, melt the chocolate, mix together. Pour the mixture onto a baking sheet and let it harden. When it does, break it into pieces, and voila! Instant gift! People get tired of cookies, but you can keep this candy a while. You can dress it up by getting tins to give it away in at Wal-Mart or a dollar store, or even get the plastic plates with Christmas prints and cover them with Saran wrap. hope this helps, good luck!

Bake some cookies, arrange them on a paper plate, or get some Christmas plates at the dollar store, and give those as gifts.

Get some items like ornaments from the dollar store that are pre-decorated, but then add the year with a red or green sharpie style marker, and tie ribbon to the hanger to use instead of a metal hook.

Buy a box of plain glass bulb ornaments at Walmart for $2. They have assorted sizes and colors. Use the sharpie to write the person's name on it, in a script if you can, or just put balls on the points of each letter. On the back, put the year. Tie with ribbon instead of a metal hanger.

Hit Dollar Tree for some gifts for kids- Rose Art puzzles (Strawberry Shortcake & Spider Man are two available), Barbie flash cards, stuffed animals, Lizzie McGuire books, Care Bear, Bratz, & Crayola coloring books, Dora the Explorer Tea Sets, Hot Wheels cars, and much more. Get 2 or three small items, and put them in a basket with a few peices of Christmas Candy and a candy cane.

Bath Basket- hit Dollar Tree, find a pretty basket for $1, and get a thing of bubble bath, scented lotion, and what not, all that matches in scent, and put them in the basket. You can forgo the basket, and just get 1 or 2 of the bath items and wrap them up together.

Christmas mugs are $.60 at Wal-Mart. Pick up a few of those, a box or two of hot coco, and a box of candy canes. Place 1 candy cane and 1 or 2 packets of cocoa in each mug. Wrap in tissue and hand those out. The cost is $.60 for each mug, $1.00 for each box of cocoa, and $.96 for the candy canes. Total cost for each mug is $.81 with 1 packet of cocoa, and $.93 if you put 2 packets in. Buy a $1.00 bag of christmas candy, and add 2-3 peices to each mug, too, if you want.

Buy a jar of peanuts, a bag of M & M's, and two empty Christmas Jars or tins at Dollar Tree. Layer the tin or jar with peanuts, then M & M's, back and forth. Costs about $1.40 to make each one. Tie a candy cane to the outside with a ribbon.

If you can sew, grab some thick soft fabric remanents at Wal-Mart or Jo-Ann's for about 1/2 the cost the same cut would be from the bolt. Doesn't matter the color or style. Pick up a large bag of non-instant rice. Sew the fabric into squares, rectangles, circles, etc, leaving 1 side open. fill almost completly with rice, sew up the open seam, and attach a note- "Heating or Cooling pad- simply freeze for a cooling pad, and microwave for 2-3 minutes to heat- do not get wet!"

Get a large bowl, a box of microwave popcorn, and either a cheap movie from the $5.50 basket at Wal-Mart, or a gift card to a local video store.

One year I made "cookies in a jar" and "soup in a jar" as gifts. Actaully everyone loved them so much I might do it again this year... now initially buying the ingrediants might seem a bit expensive BUT you get SEVERAL gifts out of it so it works out to be quite inexpensive in the end.

Attach a tag which gives the directions on how to prepare the mix and bake the cookies. Seasonal fabric or a particular kitchen decorating color scheme used for the cloth topper makes the jar attractive enough to display on a baker's rack until it is ready to be used. (you can use a narrow plastic bag instead of a jar...)

Here are the instructions for Butterscotch Chip Cookies in a Jar:

INGREDIENTS
1 1/8 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup flaked coconut
1 cup high protein crisp rice and wheat cereal
3/4 cup butterscotch chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans

DIRECTIONS
Layer the ingredients in the order given in a one quart wide mouth canning jar. Firmly pack each ingredient in place. It will be a tight fit, but all ingredients will fit in the jar. Use pinking shears to cut an 8 or 9 inch circle from gingham, calico, or a seasonal fabric. Place the fabric over the wide mouth lid and rim and secure with a rubber band. Tie on a raffia or ribbon bow to cover the rubber band.

Attach a card to the ribbon or raffia with the following mixing and baking directions:

Empty jar of cookie mix into a large mixing bowl. Add 1/2 cup of butter or margarine, 1 egg, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla. Use hands to mix the wet and dry ingredients together. When completely blended, roll into large walnut sized balls. Place on unprepared cookie sheets and use the palm of your hand to flatten each cookie ball. Bake at 350 in a preheated oven for 8-10 minutes.
